Rack and stack sounds like one task and is really six. Each one is where a job goes wrong if it's rushed.

Unpack and inventory
Gear unboxed, serials captured against your asset list, and anything damaged or missing flagged before it goes in the rack rather than after.

Mount and secure
Rail kits assembled, units mounted at the elevation you specify, cage nuts and fixings done properly, and heavy chassis lifted safely.

Patch and dress
Network and console connections patched to your existing panels, then dressed and tied so the next person can trace a run without pulling the rack apart.

Power
A and B feeds distributed across PDUs so a single feed loss doesn't take the stack down, with draw checked against what the circuit can carry.

Label
Every unit, port, and lead labelled to your convention. Unlabelled racks cost hours later, and it is the first thing that gets skipped under time pressure.

Document and hand back
Front and rear photos, serials, port and power assignments, and a note on anything that differed from the plan, sent the same day.

A Perth real estate firm needed two Dell EMC PowerEdge servers and a PowerVault storage array installed. We racked them, patched them into the network, brought them up, and configured iDRAC so their own IT team could take it from there.
03FAQ
Questions we get asked
- How much notice do you need?
- For Perth metro, a few days is usually enough, and we can often do better than that. Work inside a change window is best booked a week or two out so we can read the runbook properly before the day.
- Do you work after hours?
- Yes. Most rack work happens outside business hours because that is when the change window is. Evenings, weekends, and overnight are all normal for this kind of job.
- Do you supply rails, leads, and fixings?
- Usually you supply them, since they ship with the hardware. Tell us what is missing before the day and we will bring the gap rather than discover it on site.
- Do you do structured cabling?
- No. We patch to existing infrastructure and manage cable inside the rack. Fixed cabling and terminations to the building network are licensed work and we currently refer them out.
- Can you work to our standards?
- That is the normal arrangement. Send your build sheet, labelling convention, and rack elevation and we work to it. If you have no standard, we will use ours and document what we did.
- What do we get when the job is finished?
- Photos of the front and rear as-left, serial numbers captured, port and power assignments recorded, and notes on anything that differed from the plan.
