Structured cabling is coming

Data and communications cabling in Perth, once open cabler registration is complete

Josh is working through the open cabling registration now. Until it's held, cabling to the building network is licensed work we don't take on. If you've got a job in mind, tell us anyway: it helps us plan, and you'll be the first to know when bookings open.

01What's coming

The cabling jobs we'll take on

The same approach as the rest of our smart hands work: done to your standard, labelled, tested, and documented, by the person you booked.

  • 01

    Data points and outlets

New Cat6 and Cat6A runs from the comms cabinet to the desk, the wall, the ceiling, or wherever the next device is going.

  • 02

    Comms cabinets and patch panels

Panels terminated, labelled to your convention, and dressed so the next person can trace a run without pulling the cabinet apart.

  • 03

    Wi-Fi, CCTV and PoE devices

Runs to access points, cameras, door controllers and anything else that lives on the ceiling and wants power over the same cable.

  • 04

    Moves, adds and changes

A desk moving, a meeting room being fitted out, a printer going where there's no port. The small jobs that nobody wants to call a cabler for.

  • 05

    Testing and certification

Every run tested, every installation certified to the standard the rules require, with the paperwork sent to you the same day.

  • 06

    Tidy-ups of what's already there

The cabinet that's grown ten years of unlabelled patch leads. Traced, labelled, re-dressed, and documented so it stops being a mystery.

02Where it's at

Not bookable yet, and we'd rather say so

Customer-premises cabling has to be done by a registered cabler and certified when it's finished. That's the rule, and it's a good one. We're doing the registration properly rather than working around it.

If the job can wait

Register your interest with a line about the site and roughly what you need: how many points, which rooms, whether there's an existing cabinet. We'll keep the list and contact you the week bookings open.

If it can't

Tell us that too. We'll point you to a registered cabler we'd trust with our own work, and if there's a rack, server or network build on the other end of the cable, we can still do that part now.

03FAQ

Questions we get asked

When will cabling be available?
When the open cabler registration is held, and not before. We're not publishing a date, because the honest answer is that it depends on the training and assessment schedule. Register your interest and you'll hear from us the week it happens.
Why can't you do it now?
Cabling that connects to the telecommunications network on customer premises is licensed work in Australia. It has to be done by, or under the supervision of, a registered cabler, and the installation has to be certified. Until the registration is held we refer that work to someone who has it, rather than do it quietly and badly.
What can you do in the meantime?
Everything on the equipment side of the patch panel. Patching, cable management inside the rack, labelling, and the hardware the cabling plugs into are all part of our existing smart hands work. If a job is mostly rack and the cabling is a small part, we can often do the rack side and work alongside a registered cabler for the rest.
What happens when I register interest?
We note the job: the site, roughly how many points or runs, and when you'd want it done. If it can wait, we'll contact you when bookings open. If it can't, say so and we'll point you to a registered cabler we'd trust with our own work, and stay involved for the rack side if that helps.
Will the work be certified?
Yes. Once we're doing it, every installation gets tested and the certification paperwork that the rules require, and you get a copy. Uncertified cabling is a problem the next tenant or the insurer finds, and we'd rather not be the reason.

Got a cabling job in mind?

Tell us about it, even though we can't book it yet. It shapes what we set up for, and you'll be first on the list when the registration comes through.
